Speaking of accent walls, a single painted wall can be a good way to bring in some color in a controlled dose, especially on a wall without upper cabinets. The lower cabinets will break up the look, so you only actually have a small surface area to paint.
If you have existing doors in good condition, you can have just a few of them repainted in any hue you imagine, from a classic navy to a risky orange. If you prefer to play it safe, you can always keep an original set of neutral doors. Drawer fronts stored away to put back on before you sell or move on from a rental.
